About William Rucker
I am a native Houstonian but earned my undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York City. Texas and New York certainly have their differences. The experiences of living in both places has been a tremendous asset to me. Likewise, I have been both a prosecutor and an attorney in private practice. Seeing litigation from different sides has helped me offer informed legal aid and direction for my clients.
During the 10 years that I served as a prosecutor and felony district court chief in the major offenders section, I handled a variety of criminal and civil cases, specializing in white-collar crime, civil litigation, DWI, and many others. As a prosecutor, I began to notice that many defendants weren’t receiving proper representation from their attorneys—and most suffered convictions, prolonged sentencing, and higher fines because of it.
It wasn’t long before I decided to launch my own law firm to offer defendants zealous but honest representation. I became board certified in criminal defense law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and established my own law firm in order to provide my clients with legal aid to guide them through the rigors of defense law litigation. To that end, I’ve successfully represented countless clients facing charges ranging from DWI’s to murder—all backed by my experience arguing on both sides of the courtroom.

Domestic violence or family violence refers to a wide range of assaultive conduct and relationships. Traditionally, most people think of an abusive husband or wife when they hear domestic violence. However, in Texas, you can be charged with a domestic violence allegation for assaultive conduct against an ex-spouse, ex-boyfriend, ex-boyfriend of your ex-spouse, or even a roommate.
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
Title IX is a federal law that forbids sex discrimination in educational institutions. Originally passed in 1972, this law has slowly evolved to cover a wide range of conduct and behavior at educational institutions. In particular, sexual misconduct claims fall under the Title IX purview.

White-collar crime commonly refers to business or government professionals accused of fraud. Some examples of these allegations can be falsifying financial information, kickbacks, tax violations, bribery, Ponzi schemes, cybercrime, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery.
A white collar investigation can be conducted at both the State and Federal levels and will often times overlap. Many local law enforcement agencies have specialized investigators that handle white collar cases. The federal government will often conduct investigations through the FBI, IRS, DEA, and ATF. Federal agents may work in conjunction with local law enforcement groups in conducting dual investigations.
Sexual assault, where no force is used, is punishable as a second-degree felony and up to 20 years in prison. As the Texas Penal Code bluntly states, your duty to register as a sex offender will end when you die.
Aggravated sexual assault occurs when a person commits sexual assault PLUS causes bodily injury, threatens to cause bodily injury, uses a deadly weapon, or the intended victim is underage. The punishment range for an aggravated sexual assault case is up to life in prison. Some aggravated sexual assault cases carry a minimum punishment of 25 years in prison.
A homicide occurs if a person intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence causes the death of an individual. However, it does not necessarily mean murder. In Texas, you can commit a homicide even if you have no intention of harming someone else. Some accidents are still considered a homicide. Depending on the facts of your case the punishment for a homicide range from the death penalty to a probation.
