About Timothy Meloy
I am a lifelong resident of Southwest Ohio. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Miami University in 2005, and went on to earn my J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2009.
As a law student, I worked as a fellow for the Ohio Innocence Project, an organization which seeks to find new evidence to exonerate individuals who were wrongfully convicted of crimes. In addition, as a legal intern with the Domestic Violence Clinic, I represented clients during civil protection order proceedings.
Shortly after graduating law school, I participated in several landmark cases as a law clerk, and subsequently as an associate with Wayne Staton Co., LPA, after attaining admission to the Ohio Bar in November, 2009. I prepared several motions to dismiss, successfully arguing that Ohio’s law precluding the transportation of alcohol across state lines unconstitutional, as applied to personal use. Similarly, I successfully argued that a college dormitory is a private place for purposes of Ohio’s underage intoxication statute. These victories effectively changed how certain underage drinking offenses are treated in and around the Miami University community. Finally, I recently worked on a Twelfth district appeal in which our client’s conviction was reversed.
Organizations I have been involved in include the Christian Legal Society, where I served as President during law school. In addition, I was also an active member of the Federalist Society. As an attorney, I am a member of both the Ohio State Bar Association and the Butler County Bar Association.
