About Ted Crews
Ted grew up on a small ranch outside of Cheyenne Wyoming. After he graduated from high school he moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in General Business. After working a few different jobs out of college, he got a job working for his first legal mentor—Frank Simiele. Frank was a former prosecutor who had started a defense firm and as his only employee, Ted ran the office, wrote and filed motions and conducted witness interviews. After two years of doing such work in the criminal law field Ted decided to go to law school so he too could be a criminal defense attorney.
Ted applied at and was accepted to the Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul Minnesota. At school he already knew he wanted a career in criminal law so he focused his studies toward that end. After graduation Ted began his legal career by spending three years at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office. While there Ted maintained a large trial caseload and enjoyed many successes. He spent his last year at MCPD in probation violation court where he became keenly aware of the specific nuances of probation cases and what it takes to get reinstated.
After leaving the Public Defender’s Office in 2001 he opened The Law Office of Ted J. Crews as a sole practitioner handling only criminal defense cases. Starting around 2010 Mr. Crews was awarded an indigent client contract with the City of Phoenix. He took this contract to stay on top of the latest developments in DUI legislation and to have an opportunity to maintain his trial skills.
His goal is same in all criminal cases. It is to resolve his client’s case in the best way possible each time. First, he always tries to get a case dismissed by researching the facts and conducting interviews of the officers and witnesses to try to find legal issues or factual insufficiencies that would be grounds for dismissal. If he can’t get a case dismissed, next he’ll seek the most favorable plea offer possible to avoid the risk of trial. If the plea offer is either not acceptable, or not available, he then prepares to take the case to trial and WIN.
Throughout the criminal case process his focus is always on protecting his client’s rights and safeguarding their liberty. At the same time, he listens to his client’s concerns and keep them apprised of their case and their options.
