About Philip Harris

Mr. Harris has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry and legal profession. An honors graduate of Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration, and a cum laude graduate of Lewis and Clark Law School, Harris represents national hotel management companies in a variety of hospitality matters. Previously, Harris was CEO and General Counsel of Portland, Oregon based Shilo Management Corporation. At Shilo, Harris was responsible for a hotel company operating over 40 hotels and restaurants located in 10 western states.

As Shilo’s CEO, Harris successfully continued to grow Shilo’s revenues through a strategy of increasing penetration in existing markets and improved management techniques. Harris focused Shilo’s efforts on providing excellent customer service, improving operations, and valuing company employees. Harris was also responsible for managing all of the company’s legal matters including negotiating numerous re-finance transactions, and negotiating and overseeing the development and construction of a 160-room all suite hotel in Killeen, Texas. During Harris’ tenure at Shilo, company revenue enjoyed significant gains, numerous operational enhancements were implemented, and employee morale was notably improved.

Prior to Shilo, Harris was General Counsel for VIP’S Industries, Inc., the holding company of the Phoenix Inn Suites hotel chain. In that position, Harris was responsible for all legal matters for the company, including human resource, real-estate, liquor licensing, corporate and operations matters. Harris developed personnel guidelines based on principles of respect for the company and respect for individuality that are still used today. The company continues to use Harris on a consulting basis.

Prior to VIP’S Harris was in private practice at Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP, one of Portland’s premier national law firms. There, Harris assisted business clients with a variety of matters ranging from business and asset acquisitions and dispositions, real-estate transactions, liquor licensing and general corporate matters.
