About Monika Curyk

Monika Curyk is a lawyer focusing almost exclusively on family law. She is committed to helping her clients negotiate fair settlements or assert their rights through court litigation. When in her client’s best interests, she offers family mediation services to help them find their own way through the maze of legal, emotional and financial issues related to separation and divorce. While she strongly believes that it is best for separating spouses and their children, to avoid escalating the conflict and to amicably settle their differences, she also realizes that it is not always possible.

In addition to a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, Monika has two master’s degrees in psychology, including one from University of Toronto. Before she became a lawyer she was a mental health professional. As a therapist and counsellor she learned about conflict and its resolution, relationship dynamics, trauma – including the trauma of the relationship break-down, parenting in crisis and domestic violence.

As a family law lawyer and mediator, she strives to utilize the skills and experiences she had gained as a mental health professional. Monika’s strength is in communicating with clients. She helps them to clarify their goals and explains the law, as it is relevant to their circumstances, in order to assist them in making well informed decisions.

Monika is fluent in Polish.
