About LaJoyce Porter

LaJoyce L. Porter is a sole practitioner in Oakland, CA. She has been practicing education law in the Bay Area since 2006. She quit working as an insurance defense attorney to advocate for her two special needs daughters, who are now adults. Her oldest daughter lives in Oakland and works at Amazon. Her youngest daughter lives in Los Angeles and is attending acting school.

Ms. Porter was born and raised in Oakland, CA. She attended Oakland Public Schools from Kindergarten until she graduated from Fremont High School in 1988.

Prior to practicing education law, Ms. Porter worked at several Bay Area law firms. She represented insurers, third party administrators and self-insured employers in workers’ compensation, subrogation and civil litigation throughout the Bay Area. Most of her clients were Fortune 500 corporations. Ms. Porter also served as in-house counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance and Travelers.

Ms. Porter enjoys traveling to other countries, spending time with her two adult daughters and hiking with her three rescue dogs, Crazy Daisy, Nala and Mateo. A few interesting things about Ms. Porter that you might not know: She was a member of the Fremont High School 1988 State Championship Team; She played on the USF Women’s Team her freshman year and quit to become the mascot (USF Don); She red-shirted on Arizona State Women’s Basketball team, but returned to USF to graduate; She loves to snorkel and has snorkeled in all of the Hawaiian Islands, Jamaica, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Zihuantanejo and the Cayman Islands; She loves loves loves Hallmark movies, especially the Christmas movies.
