About John Sholly

John Sholly hails from Baltimore, Maryland, and takes pride in his alma mater, Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service with a major in International Politics in 1988. During his tenure at Georgetown, fate smiled upon him as he crossed paths with his future spouse, Leslie Hunley, originally from Knoxville.

Having rooted himself in Knoxville, Tennessee, since 1990, John Sholly’s journey has been both diverse and dynamic. After completing his undergraduate studies, he delved into the realm of federal investigation for a span of two years. However, he soon shifted gears and pursued legal education at the University of Tennessee College of Law. In 1994, he successfully acquired his J.D. and, shortly thereafter, embarked on a professional journey with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, assuming the role of a Regulatory Analyst. Simultaneously, he nurtured his legal practice, which eventually blossomed into a steadfast solo practice by 1996.

Between 1996 and 1998, John Sholly undertook the role of Knox County Judicial Commissioner. Beyond his professional engagements, he shines as a devoted family man, sharing his life’s journey with his cherished wife and their five children: Emily, John Jr., Richard, William, and Lorelei. His commitment extends to community engagement, where he actively participates in initiatives such as the Knights of Columbus and the Optimist Club. Notably, his active involvement in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church stands as a testament to his strong sense of faith and community.
