About John Gardner

John has been fighting for his clients in Virginia State Courts and Federal Court for more than 18 years. He has handled thousands of criminal and traffic court cases and has appeared before all of the local judges in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News and all courts in Hampton Roads.

DUI, Petty Larceny, Possession, Assault and Battery, No Operator’s License, Marriage Fraud, Robbery – no matter what you’ve been charged with, all cases are important when John represents his clients before a judge or a jury.

John received his Bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1991 and his Law degree in 1998 from Seton Hall University School of Law. He was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1999, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2001, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in 2008. In 2005, he completed the Trial Advocacy Institute at the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law. John is certified by the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission.

A past member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), John has extensive experience advising other criminal defense attorneys and non-U.S. Citizen clients, on the issue of the effect a criminal conviction and/or guilty plea will have on one’s immigration status. John has provided attorney training in immigration law to the Norfolk Public Defender’s Office. Prior to dedicating his practice exclusively to criminal law and traffic law representation, John successfully obtained labor certification for a broad spectrum of employees.

John has been a speaker at Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses sponsored by the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Beach Bar Association, and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association and has appeared as a guest on National Public Radio’s “Hearsay” with Cathy Lewis.

John has served as an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University’s College of Business and Public Administration and as a lead instructor at the University of Virginia’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies. He has also served as a judge for moot court and mediation competitions at Regent University School of Law.

An avid soccer player, John has been a player with the Virginia Beach Over-Forty Soccer League and OTSL for many years. He is the proud father of three young daughters.
