About Jeffrey Haynes

Sarasota lawyer Jeffrey A. Haynes is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. While at GMU, he was a member of the school’s debate team, winning numerous first place trophies, and was a member of one of sixty-four teams selected to participate in the National Debate Tournament.

Mr. Haynes graduated from law school at the University of South Carolina in 1991. While in law school, Mr. Haynes was a prosecutor with the school’s Honor Committee. During his final year of law school, Mr. Haynes placed first in his school’s trial team competition, which qualified him to participate in the National Trial Competition in Houston, Texas. He placed first in the Southeastern Regional tournament held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the first time any University of South Carolina law student team had taken first place honors.

After admission to the Florida bar in 1991, Mr. Haynes worked as a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor in the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pasco County, Florida. While there, he successfully prosecuted thousands of cases, from misdemeanors to serious felonies such as First Degree Murder, Manslaughter, Drug Trafficking, Sexual Battery, and Driving Under the Influence. He was also the prosecutor in charge of the juvenile division, where he successfully prosecuted thousands of felony and misdemeanor charges.

Mr. Haynes worked for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit as a prosecutor in both Sarasota County and Manatee County. Since leaving that office in 1996, he has been employed as a criminal defense attorney. Since entering private practice, Mr. Haynes has tried well over 100 cases before a jury and has filed and successfully argued numerous motions to suppress and motions to dismiss in defense of his clients. As a defense attorney, Mr. Haynes has handled all types of criminal cases, including but not limited to First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, Driving Under the Influence, Domestic Battery, Grand Theft, Drug Possession, Drug Trafficking, Racketeering, Aggravated Battery, Armed Robbery, and Sexual Battery.
