About Jeffrey Eastman

Jeffrey S. Eastman graduated from Rockhurst College cum laude in 1980. In 1983 He received his juris doctorate degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law. Later that year he was admitted to the Missouri Bar. In 1987 he joined the then law firm of Duggan, Keleher & Svetlic. In 1988 he and Mike Keleher formed the partnership of Keleher & Eastman which remains in existence today. In 1999 he became a member of the Kansas Bar. Jeff is one of one hundred founding members of the National College for DUI Defense as well as a founding member of the Driving Under the Influence Defense Lawyers Association. These organizations are dedicated to the advanced training and education of the practicing bar in the area of impaired driving offenses. He completed the 20-hour National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Approved Sobriety Testing and Training Course in Atlanta, Georgia in 1996. Thereafter, in Nashville, Tennessee, he became certified as a field sobriety training instructor.

Jeff has represented countless clients throughout the state charged with impaired driving offenses in both jury and court tried settings. He has more than fifty published appellate decisions including Weiland v. Director, 32 S.W.3d 628 (Mo. App. W.D. 2000) which declared unconstitutional all municipal ordinances which prohibited being in actual physical control of a motor vehicle and Baldwin v. Director, 38 S.W.3d 405 (Mo. 2001) which forever changed to their benefit the licensing history of hundreds of underage offenders. He has more than 60 published appellate decisions. He has moderated or participated in more than one hundred seminars on issues relating to licensing and impaired driving for organizations such as the Missouri Bar, the Kansas Trial Lawyers’ Association, the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law, the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Law, the Missouri Probate and Associate Judges’ Association, the Missouri Municipal and Associate Judges’ Association, the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Clay County Bar Association, the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association, the Platte County Bar Association and the Missouri Court Reporters’ Association. He has appeared on KBCG News in Columbia, Missouri and on KMBZ and KCXL in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2008 he was the recipient of the Robert Duncan Appellate Excellence Award presented by the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In 2009 he was awarded the Bernie Edelman Tradition Award by the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Every year since 2005, he has been voted by his peers a Missouri SuperLawyer.

He has consistently maintained a Martindale Hubbell AV Peer Review Rating. This preeminent rating, achievable only after admission to the bar for at least ten years, indicates the highest level of legal ability and ethics. It is described as “the pinnacle of professional excellence.” His professional memberships include the National College for DUI Defense, the Missouri Bar, the Kansas Bar, the Clay County Bar and the KCMBA. He was past president for the Board of Directors for the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also the former Director of the Clay County Bar Association and past President of the Clay-Platte Municipal and Associate Circuit Judges Association. He is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Missouri and Kansas and has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He is a graduate to the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College.
