About James Doherty

James A. Doherty, III, was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  He has been recognized as a Rising Star of Young Attorneys for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by Philadelphia magazine. With an emphasis in personal and professional liability cases, specifically medical malpractice, general liability, products liability and civil rights. Jim also acts as special counsel to a number of public entities including in representing prisons regarding the required standard of care in county prison settings. He maintains an active appellate practice having successfully argued cases before the Superior Court, Commonwealth  Court and Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Before joining SHD, Jim served as law clerk for the Honorable Thomas I. Vanaskie, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Jim also served as special counsel to the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. He was a featured speaker for the Pennsylvania Gaming Law Update Continuing Legal Education and a delegate to the General Litigation Forum. Jim is also a member of the Civil Rights Committee for the Lackawanna County Bar Association.
