About Clyde Blackmon
Clyde Blackmon began the private practice of law in 1969. Before entering private practice, he was a Ford Foundation intern with the California Legislature and served as a consultant to various legislative committees, including the Assembly Committee on Criminal Procedure. Mr. Blackmon has handled virtually every kind of criminal matter in his long career as a criminal defense lawyer in Sacramento and throughout Northern California. Cases he has defended include everything from driving under the influence to death-penalty prosecutions and major white-collar criminal investigations and trials. His practice involves precharging investigations, trials, writs, and appeals in both state and federal courts. His clients have included individuals, professionals, corporations, businesses, and government entities.
Mr. Blackmon has been a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1996 and listed in the peer-reviewed publication “Best Lawyers in America” for the past 31 years. That publication named him Sacramento’s best non-white-collar criminal defense lawyer of the year for 2011 and best white-collar criminal defense lawyer of the year for 2012. He has been recognized every year since 2004 by the peer-reviewed publication “Northern California Super Lawyers.” He has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available from this peer-reviewed publication. Mr. Blackmon is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, as well as all federal and state courts in California.
He is a member of California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He serves on the board of directors of the Central California Appellate Program and is chair of the board of directors of Harm Reduction Services, a nonprofit organization that seeks to reduce the harm caused by narcotics abuse through outreach programs and needle exchange.
Mr. Blackmon was motivated to practice criminal law by his belief in the importance of individual liberty and dedication to the rights of those accused of crime.
