Christine has a diverse commercial law practice with an emphasis on technology, franchising and retail.
The technology aspect of Christine’s practice is comprised of advising technology suppliers and customers on various commercial and contractual issues, including software-as-a-service agreements, service-provider arrangements, financial technology arrangements, data agreements, outsourcing arrangements, software licensing, consumer protection and financial regulatory issues. Christine’s technology practice has a particular focus on advising FinTech companies on contracting issues opposite financial institutions.
In the franchising industry, Christine provides Canadian and international franchisors with business practical advice on all aspects of Canadian franchise law, including the preparation of franchise agreements and disclosure documents, acquisitions and dispositions of single unit franchises and franchise systems as a whole, managing franchisee relationships and expanding operations to Canada. Christine also has a particular expertise in franchise bankruptcy and insolvency issues.
Christine also regularly advises retailers and other businesses on general commercial and contractual matters, including distribution agreements, supply agreements, reseller agreements, licensing agreements, manufacturing agreements, co-packing agreements, interim services agreements and warehousing agreements. Christine also provides retailers with advice on consumer protection issues, e-commerce issues, advertising, marketing and promotions, product warranty issues and financial regulatory matters related to consumer lending and credit reporting.
She works with clients in a broad range of industries including FinTech, emerging and high growth companies, consumer goods, food and beverage, private equity, artificial intelligence, financial services, apparel, real estate, automotive, hospitality and leisure, oil and gas, telecommunications, childcare, personal and fitness services and cannabis.
Christine brings a unique perspective to her commercial practice, having previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Superior Court of Justice.
Christine regularly writes and speaks on commercial law issues and is a member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Franchise Law Executive and the Consumer Law Subcommittee. Christine is also the former Chair of the Osler Women Lawyers’ Network.
