About Christine Franklin

Christine formed her law firm after interesting years as a prosecutor, business litigator, and in-house attorney in larger institutions in Los Angeles and Chicago. That litigation and transactional work often involved developing effective solutions in unique and fast-paced situations. She argued several cases to the California Supreme Court as a deputy attorney general for that State. She represented a bank trustee for several years in obtaining recovery as a policyholder in the Executive Life Insurance Company insolvency proceedings in California trial and appellate courts, and she dealt with the human and property losses from destruction of her employer’s World Trade Center office and the deaths of 69 in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.Equally important were experiences as in-house counsel dealing with day-to-day business operations, such as negotiating agreements for IT and real estate projects, advising HR on workplace issues, and formulating customer privacy procedures. Strategizing and advocacy were used to minimize risks and maximize favorable results, particularly in new endeavors. In fact, her preference is to use lessons learned to avert problems because of her extensive litigation background.Another aspect of Christine’s practice over the years has been navigating regulatory issues for clients. Having been both a prosecutor and an attorney involved in successfully challenging the regulator in the insolvency, she understands the benefits and boundaries of regulation and strives to achieve a sensible business solution acceptable to client and regulator.In addition to practicing, Christine regularly writes and speaks on legal and business issues. She has been an active member of the Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice Section of the American Bar Association (“ABA”) for 20 years. She co-chairs the Section’s Banking and Financial Services Committee and has written and spoken on issues relating to the financial crisis and innovation, including benefit corporations. She also has written and spoken in a variety of forums about effective electronic discovery strategies (including data-mapping), as well as privacy issues. She is a contributing author to The Road to Independence: 101 Women’s Journeys to Starting Their Own Law Firms, published by the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession.
