About Charles Smith
Mr. Smith is an attorney and lawyer in Los Angeles, California who has 30 years of experience litigating complex corporate matters, especially regarding employment and intellectual property disputes. For over 20 years, he has been A.V.-rated and designated by Martindale Hubble as a “pre-eminent attorney.”
Before opening the Law Offices of Charles G. Smith, APC, Mr. Smith was a founding partner of Towle Denison Smith & Maniscalco, LLP. Before starting that firm, he was a partner of Kinsella, Boesch, Fujikawa & Towle, LLP. He has practiced throughout state and federal courts in Northern and Southern California as well as before the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. (the patent appeals court), and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Smith graduated with departmental honors from Stanford University in 1981 and from Loyola Law School in 1984, where he was in the top 10% of his class. At Loyola, he was a staff member and on the Board of Editors of the Loyola Law Review as well as a member of the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society and the recipient of the William P. Hogoboom Award for justice. In 2005, he received the Loyola Law School Board of Governors’ Award for his outstanding contributions to society, the practice of law, and the Loyola community.
Mr. Smith lectures lawyers on confidentiality agreements and trade secret litigation both in California and nationally. He represents some of the nation’s largest insurance brokerages in litigation and provides corporate advice to them relating to trade secrets and non-solicitation.
As a part-time faculty member at the University of Southern California, Mr. Smith taught graduate engineering students about general litigation issues including intellectual property matters.
Mr. Smith also has been a major volunteer with the American Cancer Society. He has served as Chair of the Board of the California Division and continues lecturing and advocating for the Society at the state, federal, and international levels. He received the American Cancer Society’s National Capitol Dome for his outstanding advocacy efforts and most recently received the St. George National Award, the American Cancer Society’s highest national award, for his distinguished service.
Additionally, Mr. Smith volunteers with local high school students, helping them prepare for an annual international competition on constitutional law. He also has worked with members of Stanford’s Mock Trial teams.
