About Arthur Abercrombie
Taylor Porter Of Counsel W. Arthur Abercrombie, Jr., joined the firm in 1973 after serving four years with the U. S. Army, including a combat tour in Vietnam. He received his Juris Doctor from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1969 and a B.S. in Accounting from LSU in 1966. He was the Managing Partner of the firm from 2004-2010. His practice is currently limited to advising and assisting the litigation attorneys in the firm as needed.
Mr. Abercrombie concentrated his work in litigation, handling mostly large class actions, toxic tort defense and catastrophic products liability cases. A fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is a member of the Defense Research Institute and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. He also is a member of the LSU Law Center Board of Trustees and a fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation.
For 10 years, Mr. Abercrombie served as co-lead counsel for insurers of Gaylord Chemical Company in a class action case alleging toxic exposure to over 20,000 plaintiffs, which entailed a four-month jury trial in Jackson, Mississippi, and a three-and-a-half month jury trial in Franklinton, Louisiana. Mr. Abercrombie was former counsel for a Fortune 100 company in a mass tort action pending in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, involving over 1,000 plaintiffs. He also served as lead counsel for an industry in Calcasieu Parish in defense of claims for alleged toxic exposure of 16,000 plaintiffs.
Mr. Abercrombie remained in the Army National Guard after his active military service and retired in 1997 as Deputy Commander of the Louisiana Army National Guard with the rank of Brigadier General.
