Prior to forming Altus Law Firm, Mr. Jaramillo practiced at some of the nation’s largest firms, defending some of the most well-known corporations in the world in a variety of industries, including retail, banking, communications and manufacturing. He also spent over three years as an in-house attorney at The Home Depot, where he managed hundreds of employment-related matters spanning the thirteen westernmost states in the U.S. It is this unique and varied experience, along with impeccable education and training from one of the most prestigious law schools in the country, that sets Mr. Jaramillo apart from most other employment attorneys – he understands what matters most to both employees and employers.
Mr. Jaramillo regularly handles employment lawsuits on behalf of employees involving claims of wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, whistle-blowing, retaliation and discrimination or harassment claims based on age, race, religion, national origin, gender, medical condition, pregnancy, and physical and mental disabilities.
A significant portion of Mr. Jaramillo’s practice is also dedicated to handling wage and hour class actions in which large groups of employees sue their employers for violations of state or federal labor laws, often involving unpaid minimum wages, unpaid overtime, missed or late meal and rest break periods, unpaid split shift premiums and so forth. Mr. Jaramillo has handled numerous such cases during his career.
Committed to ensuring fairness and equality in the workplace, Mr. Jaramillo advises employers regarding human resources practices and recent developments in the ever-changing landscape of employment law. Mr. Jaramillo also conducts workplace investigations of employee misconduct and trains employers on how to comply with the extensive network of interwoven state and federal employment laws, including laws governing leaves of absence, accommodation of disabilities, and wage and hour practices.
Finally, Mr. Jaramillo represents executives when negotiating employment and severance agreements with their employers.
Mr. Jaramillo is a frequent lecturer to attorney and human resource organizations on topics related to litigation of employment and class actions.
