About John Funk

John Thomas “J.T.” Funk is a member at Waldron Tate Bowen Funk Spandau LLC. J.T.’s practice areas include construction law, real estate, business services, and estate planning. J.T. is a trained civil mediator and assists parties in reaching settlements effectively and efficiently. J.T. was selected to the Rising Star List by Super Lawyers in 2020 and 2021.

J.T. earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. During law school, J.T. served as the Executive Notes Editor for the Indiana International & Comparative Law Review as well as a tutor on the Dean’s Tutorial Society. J.T. externed for Magistrate Judge Denise LaRue in the Southern District of the United States District Court, and also externed with the Indiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. As an undergrad, J.T. attended Saint Louis University where he played ice hockey during his freshman year. He then transferred back home, continued to play hockey for IUPUI’s club hockey team, and graduated from Indiana University (Bloomington) with a B.S. in Secondary English Education.

Before becoming an attorney, J.T. taught English at Ben Davis and Bishop Chatard High Schools. J.T. brings his almost ten years of teaching experience to his practice, and relishes opportunities to present at estate planning seminars and to prospective lawyers through Indy Bar’s Bar Prep course.

J.T. is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association where he currently serves as marketing co-chair of the Solo/Small Firm Conference Planning Committee and secretary of the GP/Solo-Small Firm Section.

J.T. resides in Indianapolis with his wife, Sarah, and their three children. He is a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, and is the Head Coach of his son’s Junior Fuel travel hockey team. J.T. also plays guitar in a band called The Tamarindo Rock Band which raises money to help send young adults from El Salvador to college.
