About Tom Stubbs
One of five children, I was born and raised in Georgia. I attended DeKalb County public schools. Upon graduating from high school, I attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where I double majored in English and Economics and received my Bachelor’s degree in 1979.
After a year of teaching high school students in Switzerland and England, I moved to San Diego, and in 1983 I received my Master’s degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego. Upon moving back to Washington D.C., I worked as an economist for the United States Senate, and would continue to do so until 1990. I attended law school at Georgetown University Law Center, graduating in 1991. I then moved back to Decatur to practice law and raise my family. I worked with a few law firms (Sumner & Hewes, King & Spalding, Lynch & Powell, etc.) before opening my own practice, Stubbs Law Office, LLC, in 1995. Ever since, I have represented physically and financially injured people in state and federal courts, as well as handled other matters, such as wills, probate and probate litigation, collaborating with many talented attorneys along the way.
From 2012 to 2015, I had the honor of serving as a part time judge on the City of Decatur Municipal Court. I have also been privileged to serve in a leadership capacity in many organizations. I twice served as president of my neighborhood association in Decatur. I also served in the leadership of many bar associations. I was elected: president of the DeKalb Bar Association; DeKalb County delegate to the State Bar Board of Governors; at-large member on the State Bar Executive Committee; chair of the State Bar Consumer Law Section; and district vice president of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
I have three wonderful children. My oldest child, Justin, graduated from Georgia College and is a special education elementary school teacher with the DeKalb County School System. My middle child, Connor, graduated from Centre College in Kentucky, and now serves in Washington, D.C., as the legislative director for U.S. Representative Adam Smith of Seattle. My youngest child, Sarah, graduated from the University of Georgia majoring in public health, then worked with Haitian refugees in the Dominican Republic and taught school in Haiti, before returning to the States to work on the Buttigieg for President campaign as a county coordinator in York County, South Carolina. My beautiful and amazing wife, Lyn, completed graduate school in the spring of 2020 and began her career as a family therapist. I enjoy reading and walking, as well as football and baseball. I am also active politically and urge you to be informed and active yourself.
