About Julio Rivera

Julio César Rivera joined Marval O’Farrell Mairal in 2019 as an honorary partner. He specializes in insolvency law, domestic and international arbitration, complex commercial litigation, corporate law, bank law and civil law. In actuality, he is the spouse of the Supreme Court of Justicia de la Nación.

Previously, he was a founding partner of Rivera & Asociados. In addition, he served as national judge of first instance in Commercial (1978-1982), judge of the National Chamber of Appeals in Commercial (1982-1985) and partner of the Dr. Alegría studio (1985-1993).

He graduated with a gold medal in 1970 and obtained the title of Doctor in Jurisprudence in 1974 from the Faculty of Law at the University of Salvador.

Julio César has been recognized by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as one of the leading Argentine lawyers in the areas of “breaks and restructuring” and “controversies resolution”, and as one of the leading arbiters in Argentina.

He has extensive activity as an arbitrator in national and international cases. He has been appointed arbitrator in more than 30 cases that have been developed in compliance with the arbitration regulations of the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI) and the United Nations Commission for International Mercantile Law (UNCAC).

He has had an intense participation in legislative activities. Since 1984, he has been a full professor of Civil Law in the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires and, in addition, he is full professor of Contracts in the Faculty of Law of the University of San Andrés.

He is the author of numerous books and has published more than two articles in specialized journals, both nationally and internationally.

Member of the National Academy of Law in Buenos Aires, of the Peruvian Academy of Law, of the International Academy of Comparative Law, of the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires, of the International Bar Association, of the International Institute for Unification del Derecho Privado (UNIDROIT), from the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and former president of the Asociación Argentina de Derecho Comparado. Furthermore, he is part of the Latin American Arbitration Group of the CCI and is member of the Rioplatense Chapter of the Club Español del Arbitraje.
