About Richard Stermer
Richard Stermer has practiced in southwest Minnesota for more than 20 years. Rick practices primarily in the areas of bankruptcy, civil litigation, creditor rights, family law, and personal injury and wrongful death. In 2007, he was appointed as a United States Chapter 7 Panel Bankruptcy Trustee for the District of Minnesota. Rick has tried cases at both the Minnesota Supreme Court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals, most notably City of Morris v. Sax Investments, Inc., 749 N.W.2d 1 (Minn. 2008); In re Welfare of B.R.K., 658 N.W.2d 565 (Minn. 2003); and Lemcke v. Lemcke, 623 N.W.2d 916 (Minn. App. 2001).
Born in Elmhurst, Illinios, Rick received his B.A., with distinction, in 1987, and his J.D. in 1991, both from Hamline University. Rick was admitted to the bar in 1991, and practiced law at Western Minnesota Legal Services in Willmar, Minnesota and Prindle, Maland, Sellner, Chartered in Montevideo, Minnesota before founding Stermer Law Firm, PLLC, and eventually merging with Prindle, Maland, Sellner, Chartered to form Stermer & Sellner, Chtd. in 2015.
Rick is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. In 2005, he was named the Central Minnesota Legal Service’s Volunteer Attorney of the Year. Rick currently serves on the board of directors for Brookside Manor. He has previously served on the boards of the Entrepreneur’s Assistance Network, Chippewa County Housing & Redevelopment, and Earthrise Farm.
