About Joshua Stokka

I have been representing injured workers for over 10 years. I initially majored in criminology at the University of Minnesota-Duluth intending to become a prosecutor. I had no intention of becoming a workers’ compensation attorney. However, after my first job during law school working for a workers’ compensation attorney, I decided that this is what I eventually wanted to do after law school.

Prior to practicing in the area of workers’ compensation, I clerked for a judge in the 7th Judicial District in Minnesota. This valuable experience gave me insight into how judges think, do their jobs behind the scene, and how to frame a case in order to obtain a favorable result. Now, I focus 100% of his practice to defending injured workers in Minnesota.

Unlike many other Minnesota workers’ compensation attorneys, I advise clients to keep in contact with me about their case in any way that is comfortable for them, whether that is by cell phone, email, and he takes phone calls on nights and weekends to address any client concerns. In addition, unlike many other lawyers, I handle every aspect of his clients’ cases, whether that be at the initial interview, at a deposition, a simple phone call about the status of the case, and of course at trial.

Minnesota workers’ compensation is a niche area of the law. It is not an area of the law that is typically taught in law school. The body of law is vast and complicated. An injured worker, or an attorney who does not practice workers’ compensation cases should not attempt to navigate the complicated system. Insurance companies will not advise a worker of many of these benefits and will bully workers to force settlements. Because he devotes all of his practice to workers’ compensation, he is aware of the tactics the insurance companies employ.

Many workers who are injured are in a tough spot, and do not believe they can afford to hire an attorney. Minnesota law is favorable to injured workers and I do not charge a fee unless I obtain a favorable result for you. All of this is explained, free of charge, at the initial consultation. Even if you are currently receiving benefits, I, unlike many other Minnesota workers’ compensation attorneys, will monitor a case free of charge until the insurance company starts denying benefits.

When an employee is injured he or she is not only up against their employer, they now have a multi-million dollar insurance company against them. One of the most rewarding experience I have in my job is defending workers against Goliaths using the law. At the free consultation the options will be fully explained with no obligations.
