About Christopher Carey

Mr. Carey is engaged in general admiralty trial and appellate practice, with particular emphasis in cargo subrogation, personal injury defense, limitation of liability, LHWCA defense, charter party disputes, collisions, sinkings, strandings, fire cases, barge breakaways, marine insurance coverage disputes, ADA matters, drug testing policies and general maritime litigation. He also is experienced in products liability litigation, including maritime and aviation casualties. Mr. Carey was Vice-Chairman, Younger Lawyer’s Section, 1990-1994, Maritime Law Association. He spoke at the MLA meeting held in Orlando in 1990 on “Recent Developments in the Fifth Circuit” and at the Greater New Orleans Barge Fleeting Association in 1994 on “Emotional Injury.” Mr. Carey has served on the Advisory Board, Tulane Maritime Law Seminar since 1996, and spoke at Tulane’s 8th Fall Maritime Law Seminar on “Recent Developments” in 1999, at Tulane’s 9th Fall Maritime Law Seminar on “Professionalism and Codes of Conduct”, and Tulane’s Fall Maritime Law Seminar on “Investigation, Statements and Evidentiary Issues” in 2002. In 2003, he spoke at Tulane’s Fall Maritime Law Seminar on his paper addressing the “Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2000.” He also served as an instructor at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s Trial Academies for the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel in 1997, 1999 and 2003. Mr. Carey also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Law Association of the United States from 2013-2016.
