Kevin Shepherd assists clients with complex real estate transactions. Kevin represents some of the largest U.S. and global institutions in the structuring and negotiation of development projects, corporate headquarters leases, office tower acquisitions, and electrical generation facilities development. He advises clients on the purchase, sale, financing, and leasing of high-value, single-asset properties in major U.S. cities, and represents the country’s leading owner, operator, and developer of collaborative and dynamic life science, technology, and agtech campuses in key urban innovation cluster locations. He routinely advises prominent corporations, pension funds, real estate investment trusts (REITs), and institutional investors.
Kevin is a national leader who currently serves as the treasurer of the American Bar Association (ABA), the largest voluntary organization of attorneys and legal professionals in the world. Kevin is the first Venable partner to serve as an officer of the ABA and is only the third Maryland lawyer in the last century to serve as an ABA officer. Kevin is a past president of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, an invitation-only organization that is the premier organization of U.S. real estate lawyers. He has also chaired the ABA Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section, one of the largest substantive sections within the ABA.
Kevin is managing director of finance and chair of Venable’s Finance Committee, which oversees the firm’s financial operations, policies, and procedures. He chaired Venable’s Real Estate Practice Group for twelve years. Kevin is a prolific author and speaker (both domestically and internationally) on commercial real estate matters, including the role of the legal profession in detecting and preventing money laundering and terrorist financing in business transactions.
