Deven graduated from BYU with a Psychology Degree. While completing his degree, Deven served as a youth counselor for the State of Utah, Department of Corrections.

Deven then graduated with his Law Degree from Lewis and Clark College, Northwestern School of Law in Portland, Oregon. After practicing law in Oregon a short time, Deven returned home to Utah to continue his legal career.
