About Mark Manning

Activities and commerce involving vessels or the waterfront occur in a different legal and practical world from similar activities ashore. This world is unfamiliar to most lawyers, who do not practice in it regularly. Mark Manning has been assisting clients as an attorney in the Alaska maritime world for 29 years.

Claims arising from vessel collision, personal injury and other accidents, and from commercial and personal disputes must be resolved by negotiation, litigation, arbitration or mediation. Insurance disputes develop, equipment and supplies are purchased, mortgages are taken out, liens arise, debts must be collected, employment disputes develop, cargo damage happens, business issues must be addressed, pollution occurs, and insurance, sale, charter, lease, repair and other contracts must be negotiated.

When such activities occur ashore, they are generally governed by Alaska state law. But when they occur in the maritime world, they are usually governed by federal admiralty and maritime law, or by some combination of federal and Alaska state law. If you have a legal matter that requires experience in this world, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our office to discuss how we can help you.
