About William Hutcheson
Will Hutcheson holds a B.A. and M.A. in philosophy from Queen’s University and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall and was called to the bar in 2008. Will was the 2006 winner of the Wilson Moot, the 2007 winner of the Gale Cup (the national mooting championships) and represented Canada in the 2007 Commonwealth Moot Championships held in Nairobi Kenya. Will represented Queen’s University in the 2002 World Debating Championships, placing 20th out of more than 300 teams from 90 universities.
Will completed his articles in criminal defence law at the firm of Greenspan Humphrey Lavine and has practiced as a family lawyer since 2008. Prior to starting his own firm in 2009, Will was an associate family lawyer at Martha McCarthy & Company.
Will represents clients at all levels of court in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Will also does simple wills and powers of attorney.
Will was previously on the board of the St. Alban’s Boys and Girls Club. He was previously on the board of West Toronto Community Legal Services. He is currently on the board of the Bolton Foundation.
Will is a presenter with the family court’s Mandatory Information Program.
Will has worked with children since he was a teenager. He was a volunteer hockey coach at age 16 and, many years later, is now back again with the same league as a coach, now coaching his own children. Prior to going to law school he worked at five different children’s camps over 7 years. He is a member of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer Personal Rights Panel, through which he represents children in family law and CAS matters. He is trained in, and does, “Voice of the Child” or “Hear the Child” reports privately. Will is the father of two boys currently ages 10 and 12.
Will is a Certified Specialist in Mediation with both the Family Dispute Resolution of Ontario (FDRIO) and the Ontario Association of Family Mediators (OAFM). He is available to mediate family law disputes between parties both who have or who do not have lawyers present for the mediation.
