An old adage they teach you in law school is to never ask a question unless you already know the answer – well, in this case, having been an examiner, we can usually anticipate how the examiner thinks, how he will consider and use the prior art, and what arguments he will make and use to prevent our clients from achieving their patent goals – thus, we have an advantage of effectively being one step ahead of the examiner during both the application preparation and application prosecution stages.
