About James Roberts
James Roberts is a Partner at Burr & Forman LLP and works in the Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy group in the firm’s Birmingham office.
James’ practice focuses on all aspects of corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, and insolvency proceedings, including Section 363 sales, disorderly winddowns, preference, and fraudulent transfer litigation, as well as debtor and secured creditor representation. James works with clients in Chapter 11 proceedings, as well as financial institutions holding distressed debt portfolios.
James also sits on the firm’s diversity committee and is highly involved in the firm’s diversity initiatives. In 2020, James was named a finalist as a “Future Leader” by Chambers USA Diversity & Inclusion Awards.
James received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC. While attending GULC, James was a mentor for the Georgetown Black Law Students Association. He also was recognized by the National Council of Bankruptcy Judges as a Blackshear Fellow. In 2014, James received the John F. and Noreen C. Sweeney Scholarship for academic performance
Outside of work, James enjoys being involved in his local Birmingham community, and in addition to volunteering with Girls, Inc., he serves as a middle school mentor at inner-city Birmingham schools through Growing Kings.
