About John Keating

Empathy and Competence Based on Personal and Professional Experience
Attorney Keating’s parents got divorced when he was 15 years of age. He has always been grateful to them — and credited them — for a caring, cooperative and genuinely collaborative approach to parenting both before and after their divorce. Having these wonderful role models served him exceedingly well when his own marriage came to an end while his three children were still attending the public schools of Marshfield. This background, coupled with his decades of experience in the law, provide him with a unique capacity to counsel his divorce and family law clients and shepherd them with empathy and competence through the often confusing and sometimes anxiety-filled legal proceedings associated with divorce, including (sometimes) restraining orders.

A 1985 graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, Attorney Keating was named “One of Ten [Graduating Seniors] Who Made a Difference.” After several years in Washington, D.C., he attended Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, receiving his Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) in 1993. He was a longtime coach for the Marshfield Youth Soccer Program, served as Chairman of the Marshfield Planning Board, is a former columnist for the Marshfield Mariner, and, in what seems like a lifetime ago, spent six months after college serving as the mailroom supervisor and personal driver for Senator Joseph R. Biden of Delaware. Most importantly, he is the proud father of three beautiful and talented daughters.
