About Marc Kivitz
I have been in practice for over 30 years. In that time I have represented thousands of small businesses an families like yours, helping them with their financial problems, defending their lawsuits and filing their bankruptcy cases. I help people have a fresh start and ease their worries.
But that says what I do, not really who I am. When you read my bio you will find that I am a bit of a book worm and over achiever. I graduated from The University of Maryland Honor program in 1976, with honors and as a Phi Beta Kappa. I was awarded the HC Byrd Citizenship Prize given for community service. I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, 1979, and won the Moot Court Appellate Advocacy Award and the William Cunningham Exceptional Achievement Award.
I was the first law clerk to the new United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, working for the late, Honorable, Harvey Leibowitz. In addition to my practice, I was employed as a Untied States Bankruptcy Trustee, from 1980-1996, administering bankruptcy cases filed in Baltimore. I was also a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees.
I am a member of the Bar Association of Baltimore City, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland. I served on the Maryland State Bar Association’s Subcommittee for the 25th Anniversary of the Bankruptcy code.
And I am a frequent lecturer on various bankruptcy topics at the annual Maryland State Bar Association, the Bankruptcy Bar Association and the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers (MICPEL) as well as National Business Institute.
in May 2020 the Maryland state bar published my textbook entitled judgment avoidance exemptions and lean stripping
