About Benjamin Castillo

Benjamin Castillo is a Partner at O’Hanlon, Demerath & Castillo. He practices labor and employment law, transactions, governance, construction law, and litigation defense. Mr. Castillo has been with the firm since 2012 after graduating from UT Austin with a degree in Government before attending South Texas College of Law Houston, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2013.

Since then, Mr. Castillo has gained an extensive background in all facets of labor and employment law and transactional work for public school districts and private entities. Mr. Castillo is admitted to practice in Texas and before the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Mr. Castillo also speaks fluent Spanish.

Representative Experience:  

• Labor law advice to school districts, charter schools, and education organizations

• Transactional work for Texas school districts, charter schools, non-profits, private entities, and state government entities

• Texas Public Information Act representation for local governments, school districts, and charter schools

• Advice on Texas construction law, including bid protests and mechanic’s lines

• Texas School law, including education code interpretation and officials’ legal ethics

• Texas Open Meetings Act representation at the local government level

• Texas Election Code advice for Texas political subdivisions, especially school districts

Mr. Castillo has been involved with public school districts his entire life. His parents were lifelong educators retiring as a superintendent and principal, respectively. In 2007, Mr. Castillo was elected as a school board trustee for the Mercedes Independent School District, where he served until 2012.

Mr. Castillo is married to his wife, Stephanie Sullenger, who is an educator as well. They have two beautiful children, Amelia, and Baby Ben.
