About Frederick Graefe

Fred Graefe, a Marine Corps veteran, founded Graefelaw in 2004. Prior to that, he served as a partner with the Washington offices of Hunton & Williams and Baker & Hostetler. His current practice focuses on legislative and regulatory matters affecting Medicare and Medicaid, which involves extensive interaction with the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees.

Mr. Graefe also serves as Washington counsel to several trade associations and coalitions. On behalf of his clients, he meets with senior policymakers in Congress, the White House, the Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Department of Treasury, and the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the National Institutes of Health, specializing in national policy issues, with special emphasis on comprehensive health care reform, including Medicare and Medicaid, public health, biomedical and behavioral research, national tax policy, and telecommunications reform.

Mr. Graefe earned a J.D. and an M.A. from Georgetown University, and an A.B. from Loyola University. He is a Member of The District of Columbia and Iowa Bars as well as the Supreme Court of the United States of America and was appointed as a Member of the Judicial Conference for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1983. Mr. Graefe was a Board Member of the United States Capitol Historical Society and is currently a Member of the Supreme Court Historical Society. Mr. Graefe served as a Marine Infantry Officer in Vietnam from 1967-1968.
