About James Sutherland

Career Basics
Prior to joining Mullin & Filippi in Santa Rosa in April 2019, Jim Sutherland had worked for plaintiff personal injury firms for over 20 years. After 15 years working in Petaluma, CA, Jim joined a small, but busy firm in Oakland for the last five years. During his 20 years, Jim has handled many Workers Compensation crossover cases where he was introduced to their subrogation units.

Education
Jim received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, CA in 1984. After getting a job as an adjuster for Farmers Insurance, Jim went from a property damage adjuster to handling complex liability, injury, and coverage cases. Because of the responsibilities, Jim decided to go to law school and graduated from Empire College School of Law, Santa Rosa, CA in 1995.

Jim has been a member in good standing with the California Bar Association since 1997.Personal Note
I had always been intrigued by the complexity and fluidity of the Workers Compensation arena. It seemed always changing. After years as a personal injury attorney, I wanted more of a challenge in my career, and am happy to be given the chance to prove myself worthy.
In my off time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and our little pup, Darla. I like to camp, fish, golf, shoot pool, and throw darts. I’m always up for a game of cribbage or backgammon.
