About Nathan Shafner

Nathan has represented thousands of injured workers, their spouses and children in connection with their workers’ compensation claims. A graduate of Hofstra University School of Law with a Juris Doctor, Nathan has remained active serving on the Task Force working with the State of Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission and Medical Provider Guidelines.

Nathan graduated from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1988 with a Juris Doctor, During his time at Hofstra, he served as Managing Editor of the Hofstra Property Law Journal. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the University ofMassachusetts at Amherst in 1983. Licensed to practice law in the State of Connecticut since 1988 and the United States District Court, Connecticut since 1989, Nathan has represented thousands of injured workers, their spouses, and children in connection with their workers’ compensation claims. He has provided expert testimony to the Connecticut Statewide Grievance committee on the issue of attorney fees under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, has filed amicus curiae briefs with the Connecticut Supreme Court on behalf of various groups concerning appellate issues involving workers’ compensation, and served as a member of the Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission Legal Advisory Board since 2000. 

Nathan served on the Task Force that drafted the State of Connecticut Workers’ Compensation Commission Payor and Medical Provider Guidelines to Improve the Coordination of Medical Services and has appeared on numerous occasions before the Connecticut General Assembly. He has offered written and oral testimony and participated and drafted language on many workers’ compensation-related bills and proposals. 

Nathan is a past member of the Connecticut Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Executive Committee, is currently a member of the Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group and is a member and past co-Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. He was named as a Best Attorney in the USA in 2009 and a Top Attorney in the State of Connecticut in 2009, 2010 and 2012. He has published numerous articles on workers’ compensation matters and lectured on workers’ compensation on behalf of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and the Workers’ Injury Law and Advocacy Group.
