About Meredith Carpenter
Meredith is a wife, mom, stepmom, 2-time cancer survivor, lover of Alabama football, and fierce advocate. since graduating from the Birmingham School of Law she has practiced in this field for over ten years and has spent countless hours representing clients in various areas of family law. before becoming a lawyer Meredith was a licensed graduate social worker with a master’s in social work and a bachelor of science in special education, both from the University of Alabama.

Domestic Relations is a division of Circuit Court in which divorces are primarily filed. Divorces (especially when there are children) are complex and we strongly recommend you consult with an attorney that specializes in this area. there are a number of other matters including alimony, property settlement, child support, child custody, visitation, contempt, modification, and spousal abuse.
Family Court (also known as Juvenile Court) is a division of district court that exercises jurisdiction in matters involving children. This may comprise of cases in which a child is alleged to be delinquent, dependent, or in need of supervision. This Court also holds jurisdiction over other proceedings including establishment of paternity, child support enforcement, and protection from abuse.
Mediation is an informal and flexible dispute resolution process. The mediator’s role is to guide the parties toward their own resolution. The mediator will carry messages—offers, counter offers, questions, demands, and proposals—between both sides to help the parties move closer to resolution.
