About Jean Gustafson

I graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1991. I was a member of Law Review, and worked at the Thormodsgaard Law Library while attending law school. I attended a summer term at the University of Oslo, Norway and studied international legal studies there with law students from former Soviet block nations.

Jean M. Gustafson is a seasoned attorney who specializes in various branches of law, including employment law, elder law, criminal and family law. She is licensed in the states of Minnesota, South Dakota, Utah and Federal Court of the District of Minnesota. She has also received training in Basic Mediation. Jean is a firm believer in mediation and she has seen it obtain better results for her clients than adversarial court battles.

In addition to her legal practice, Jean M. Gustafson has been actively involved in the community. She has served in numerous boards in Brainerd Area, including the Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center (LAPS) board, church boards in Crosby, Minnesota and the Gordon Rosenmeier Board for State and Local Government. She is currently highly involved in the Minnesota bar association serving as a diverse attorney in two affinity bars, Elder Law Education committee member and former chair of the Elder Law Institute Planning Committee.

Some of her impactful achievements in these boards include overseeing the planning for continuing legal education, organizing a diversity retreat and speaking at different forums about elder law issues and dementia-friendly practice. Jean is also actively involved in promoting diversity in the Elder Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. Aside from her legal assignments, she loves art and has a couple of paintings hanging in her office.
